I think it’s safe to say I’m well and truly warmed up O_O Do you guys attempt to play through and ridiculously hard pieces to warm up?
Which pieces are they?

Time for a bit of fun!

Music Theory help!
Well, we’ve had three replies so far and they’ve all been brilliant in their own rights.
ceeceethegreat - Suggested this YouTube account for theory lessons. He starts from the absolute basics and works up. So far they’ve been great. Quite an entertaining teacher too.
For British students that are learning from scratch you should learn the differences between American and...

Who here finds they excel in their practical...
Embarrassingly to say, I do!
Today I shall be spending most of the day recapping on my Grade 5 ABRSM Theory, the exam in which I took over 4 years ago. Do you guys use any website to help with your theory? Post links and I’ll make a post with all of them in to help everyone else struggling with their theory!

brassstudent answered your question: Has anyone ever performed with an orchestra?
Shostakovich Piano Concerto No. 1! It’s so much better!
I’m sticking to these three as they’re not exactly challenging, but they still have element of difficulty to them. Remember, I’m new to playing with orchestras so I don’t want to go too out of my depth!

Has anyone ever performed with an orchestra?
My ATCL Performance Diploma exam will be between the 9-13 of July. After that I’m going to try and perform with an orchestra! Have you ever performed with one? What piece(s) did you play? I’ve narrowed my choices down to three, those are:
Shostakovich Piano Concerto No.2 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ck5a6A2WyB0
Finzi - Eclogue for Piano and Strings Op. 10...

Me practicing the end of La Gazza Ladra.
I think I did ok, I think it could have been better to be totally honest. There is a little lick I need to practice, you will notice that I stop at point in the video, that is where it starts. I think it switches to 5 sharps and they are quarter note so it should be easy but I just never really looked at it before. I would like to add...

ClassicFM Live - Royal Albert Hall
Tonight I’m going to a concert at the Royal Albert Hall It’s not my favourite concert hall but it’s fun nonetheless!
The programme for the evening is as follows: First half Copland - Fanfare for the Common Man Weber - Finale from Clarinet Concerto No.2 - Clarinet: Michael Collins Tchaikovsky - Piano Concerto No.1 - Piano: Behzod Abduraimov
Second half Shostakovich -...
snicketsea asked: This is my last year of piano lessons-- academics are getting more serious next year and I have two instruments to practice in the school band. I am really worried that I'll lose my ability to play though, and I'm still interested in learning more. I'll be finishing with my RCM Grade 6 practical exam, and I've done the theory corequisite. Do you have any suggestions on...

How do you like to practice?
I find I’m much more focused when I don’t have my laptop with me. I’m refusing to bring it to most of my practice sessions now. How do you like to practice? What happens in your sessions?

It's been awfully quiet here...
I’m still rather confused as to why hardly anyone commented about the Rachmaninoff surprise… Anyway, I saw the Royal Ballet perform Alice’s adventures in Wonderland and it was brilliant!
Joby Tabot’s music is amazing.

I had an extremely bizarre and busy day yesterday and I forgot about the surprise! I shall post it now! Keep and eye out.

I've just been watching Batman Returns...
I was hearing little quotes from The Nightmare Before Christmas which was released a year after. Unaware of what order Danny Eflman wrote the scores in I find it extremely fascinating when I hear film music in others. What are you favourite film music scores?

I'm getting into my bath...
When I lived at my old house I used to have baths more frequently, now it’s just showers. I would always listen to music whilst in there. The main pieces were:

Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No.2, Op.18
Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No.3, Op.30
Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No.4, Op.40
Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto No.1, Op.23
What pieces do you...

abdominalmuscles answered your question: Piano Teachers
My piano teacher only takes students who are doing private study post piano-school and she has a dress code for me >.< Not the nicest person
Oh, that sounds horrible. My piano teacher takes students of all abilities and ages. I remember one time she told me that she has a student in their 30’s (Or it might have been 50’s,...

Piano Teachers
I was thinking about my piano teacher today and how we have an absolutely amazing relationship. I’ve known her for 9 years and we get on so well. The start of the lesson would generally consist of a 10 minute conversation about a concert I’ve been to, something I’ve read or just something absolutely random. Some weeks she’ll have one of her piano magazines on the piano to...

abdominalmuscles answered your question: Question time!
It was 13 years ago, but I believe it was the Musette in D Major XD.
Oh, that is an absolutely fun piece! My very first thing I learnt must have been Jingle Bells. My current piano teacher (Of 9 years) wrote the notes down when I started at my new school for me as I so kindly asked her. A few months later I was getting piano lessons with...

Question time!
The Piano Blog now has 36 followers, which I’m extremely thankful for! I’m aware that we have quite the range of pianists from beginner to advanced (We might have some semi-professionals that I’ve just not spoken to yet). So, here’s a question that all of you can be involved with! What is the first piece you remember learning properly?

hakitteh answered your question: What’s your view on the Hanon exercises?
ABSOLUTELY. However, Hanon exercises are actually only basic ones.. I still play them a lot, but my teacher says its for new piano “babies”..
I disagree with both you and your piano teacher on that one. What “babies” at piano do you see playing:
Broken arpeggios in octaves
Scales in broken octaves
All...
